You hired a “funnel expert.”
They built you a beautiful funnel. And you made $0.
🤔 Let me guess what happened:
They promised you:
→ High-converting design
→ Proven templates
→ Industry best practices
→ Professional copywriting
You paid $5K-$15K.
✔ Got a gorgeous funnel.
✔ Perfect animations.
✔ Stunning graphics.
✔ Mobile-optimized.
And zero sales💵.
I know because I’ve rebuilt 60 of these “expert” funnels.
After entrepreneurs realized pretty doesn’t equal profitable.
Here are the 3 things I wish every entrepreneur knew before hiring a funnel expert:
1️⃣ A funnel builder is NOT a funnel strategist.
This one cost my client Ciara $18K in wasted ad spend last year.
Here’s what happened:
Ciara hired a “funnel expert” for $8K.
👉 What she got:
→ Beautiful landing page
→ Smooth animations
→ Professional design
→ Industry-standard layout
❌ What she didn’t get:
✘ Customer research
✘ Offer validation
✘ Messaging strategy
✘ Traffic-to-offer match
✘ Data tracking and optimization
The funnel looked amazing. But converted at 0.8%.😨
When I asked the “expert” in an email conversation why it’s not converting, he said:
“The design is perfect. Maybe your offer isn’t good enough.”
😨 Translation: I build pretty things. I don’t solve business problems.
👉 Here’s the brutal truth:
Most “funnel experts” are Clickfunnels technicians.
They can:
✔ Drag and drop elements
✔ Copy templates
✔ Make things look professional
✔ Follow design trends
❌ They can’t:
✘ Identify why your messaging isn’t landing
✘ Tell you your offer is wrong
✘ Figure out why qualified traffic isn’t converting
✘ Diagnose the real problem
They’re carpenters, not architects.
They build what you tell them to build. Even if what you’re telling them is completely wrong.
Before hiring, ask:
“Have you ever told a client their offer was the problem, not the funnel?”
If they say no, they’re a builder, not a strategist.
2️⃣ If they don’t ask about YOUR customers, run.
This cost David $11K in wasted ad spend.
He hired a “guru” who charged $5K for a funnel.
📞 The first call:
Guru: “What’s your business?”
David: “I’m a business coach.”
Guru: “Great! I’ve built 100 funnels for coaches. I know exactly what works. and blah blah”
Red flag nobody caught. (Not all funnels can be perfect, I am human too, and I make mistakes)
The guru used his “proven coach funnel template.”
The problem?
David’s customers were corporate executives but the template was built for solopreneurs. A huge disconnect!!!
😨 Completely different:
✔ Pain points
✔ Language
✔ Objections
✔ Buying triggers
✔ Price sensitivity
The funnel flopped. Hard.😨
Here’s what should have happened:
✔ Expert: “Tell me about your customers.”
✔ Expert: “What specific problem keeps them up at 3 AM?”
✔ Expert: “What language do THEY use to describe their pain?”
✔ Expert: “What have you tried before that didn’t work?”
✔ Expert: “Why do people NOT buy from you?”
If your “expert” doesn’t ask these questions, they’re guessing.
And guessing with your money.
I’ve built 300+ funnels for 170 entrepreneurs.
Every single one that failed had one thing in common:
We lacked sound data from the client, so we had to built it based on what’s availible and then test with small ad budget, track, collect the data, and then optimize it and then ship it.
3️⃣ “Proven templates” are killing your conversions.
This is the lie that keeps funnel builders employed.
🙅 Here’s what they won’t tell you:
That “proven template” that “generated $1M”?
It worked for:
→ A different audience
→ A different offer
→ A different price point
→ A different market maturity
→ A different time period
Your business is none of those things.
Hired an expert who used a “7-figure funnel template.”
The template:
✔ Worked for a $97 course
✔ Targeting beginners
✔ In the weight loss niche
Your business:
✔ Selling $3K consulting
✔ Targeting experienced entrepreneurs
✔ In the B2B space
✔ Today’s market
The template bombed💥. Obviously.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
🎙️ Templates are a starting point, not a solution.
👉 The framework before you hire anyone:
Question 1: “Are you a builder or a strategist?”
If they only talk about design, they’re a builder
Question 2: “What’s your customer research process?”
If they don’t have one, they’re guessing
Question 3: “How do you handle when a template doesn’t work?”
If they blame your offer, they’re not an expert
Question 4: “Have you ever told a client NOT to build a funnel?”
If they haven’t, they’re a salesman, not an advisor
The harsh reality:
Most “funnel experts” are order-takers.
They build what you ask for. They don’t question if it’s right. They don’t push back. They don’t do the hard work of strategy.
They take your money and build pretty things that don’t convert.
Then blame your offer when it fails.
Since I started rebuilding “expert” funnels:
✔ Fixed 60 failed funnels
✔ Average improvement: 3.2x conversion increase
☑️ Here’s your checklist before hiring:
✔ Do they ask about YOUR customers specifically?
✔ Do they have a research process?
✔ Do they customize, not just template?
✔ Have they ever advised NOT building a funnel?
✔ Do they talk strategy before design?
If the answer is no to any of these, keep looking.
Your funnel is too important to trust to a Clickfunnels technician with a fancy portfolio.
