The work that makes you comfortable keeps you broke

You worked 14 hours yesterday.

And made $0.

Let me guess what you did:

  → Redesigned your logo (again)

  → Reorganized your Notion workspace

  → Updated your LinkedIn banner

→ Watched 3 “productivity hack” videos

  → Researched your competitors

→ Planned your content calendar for next month

→ Fixed the spacing on your website footer

🫵 You were busy all day.

But you weren’t working.

I know because I did this for 11 months straight in 2017.

I know because I did this for 8 months straight in 2018.

My typical day:

• 6 AM: Morning routine (journaling, meditation, cold shower)

• 7 AM: Plan my day in 3 different productivity apps

• 8 AM: Check analytics (no sales to analyze)

• 9 AM: Tweak website copy

• 11 AM: Research competitors

• 1 PM: Organize my Trello board

• 3 PM: Watch marketing tutorials

• 5 PM: Update my CRM

• 7 PM: Plan tomorrow

Hours worked: 12-14 daily

Money made: $4,970 in 11 months

That’s $451 per month.

While working like I had a $100K/month business.

Here’s what I wasn’t doing:

❌ Lead generation

❌ Making sales calls

❌ Following up with leads

❌ Asking for referrals

❌ Creating offers

❌ Sending outreach messages

The hard stuff. The uncomfortable stuff. The stuff that actually makes money.

Then my business partner and I had a discussion and reflected on this one question:

“If we could only do ONE thing tomorrow, what would move money into our account?”

We sat there. Silent. Embarrassed.

Because we had the answer. But chose to intentionally blind sight it.

None of my 14-hour days were designed to make money. They were designed to avoid the fear of hearing “no.”

Here’s the brutal truth:

Busy work is a drug.

🫵 It gives you the high of “being productive.” Without the pain of actual rejection. Without the risk of real failure. Without the vulnerability of asking for money.

You get to feel like an entrepreneur. Without doing the entrepreneur shit.

So I made a new rule:

Before I could touch anything else, I had to do 3 “money moves”:

1️⃣ One sales call or follow-up

2️⃣ One outreach to a potential client

3️⃣ One ask for a referral or testimonial

Everything else? Banned until those 3 were done.

📆First month: $6,720 in new business

Same skills. Same offer. Same market.

The only difference: I stopped hiding behind busy work.

Here’s what changed:

Instead of: Redesigning my logo / I did: Called 3 warm leads

Instead of: Organizing my Trello I did: Sent 20 outreach messages

⚠️ The uncomfortable reality most won’t admit:

You’re not busy because you’re building a business. You’re busy because you’re avoiding building a business.

Every hour you spend on “business stuff”:

👉 Designing your brand

👉 Setting up fancy systems

👉 Organizing your workspace

👉 Optimizing your processes

👉 Perfecting your website

Is an hour you’re not spending on revenue stuff:

❌ Talking to prospects

❌ Making offers

❌ Following up relentlessly

❌ Asking for sales

❌ Closing deals

Here’s the test:

👀 Look at your calendar from last week.

How many hours were spent on activities that could directly lead to revenue in the next 7 days?

If it’s less than 60%, you’re playing business, not building one.

I’ve built 300+ funnels across 20+ niches, worked with 100 entrepreneurs.

You know what separates the six-figure entrepreneurs from the stuck ones?

It’s not their systems. It’s not their branding. It’s not their productivity apps.

It’s their willingness to do uncomfortable revenue work.

📆 Daily.

While everyone else is:

→ Color-coding their calendar

→ Building the “perfect” morning routine

→ Optimizing their email signature

→ Watching one more tutorial

They’re:

✔️ On sales calls

✔️ Following up with leads

✔️ Making offers

✔️ Asking for referrals

✔️ Closing deals

Quietly. Consistently. Profitably.

The harsh truth nobody wants to hear:

Your business doesn’t care about your:

❌ Notion workspace

❌ Morning routine

❌ Productivity system

❌ Brand colors

❌ Trello board

It cares about revenue💰.

And revenue comes from uncomfortable conversations. Not comfortable busy work.

🍵 Here’s your wake-up call:

Tomorrow, before you touch anything else:

✔️ Make 1 sales call.

✔️ Send 5 outreach messages.

✔️ Follow up with 3 warm leads.

Do that every day for 30 days.

Then tell me you have a lead problem.

You don’t have a lead problem.
You don’t have a skill problem.
You don’t have a market problem.

You have a busy work addiction.

And it’s keeping you broke.
